Magic Cube Laser Projection Keyboard
- Small, Easy-to-Integrate Components: Its compact size and lower power consumption allows manufacturers to integrate the Projection Keyboard directly into their devices without significantly increasing the size or power consumption of the device
- Fast and Accurate Data Input: The large keys and familiar layout of the Projection Keyboard allows for input speeds greater than that of 50 words-per-minute with error rates similar to that of a standard physical keyboard, thus setting a new benchmark in mobile input performance
- Ease of Use: Projection Keyboard provides users with a comfortable, near fatigue-less way of entering data into their mobile devices. Projection Keyboard can also help reduce the ergonomic risk factors associated with other input alternatives by reducing strain on the wrists
- Dual Mouse and Keyboard Functionality: Since the Projection Keyboard Perception Chipset works by optically tracking finger movements rather than registering the physical switches of a regular keyboard, users can use the same surface for both keyboard data entry and mouse functionality

Customers are not satisfied with the keyboard. They say that the keyboard layout is way off from a normal keyboard with such simple keys. Even on a white surface, the top keys didn't project properly making them difficult to make. Customers say that it isn't practical as a keyboard and screws up their home row keys.

Understanding that this is a very new and innovative product, there will always be room for improvement. That being said, this is a nice product that I am still evaluating. Product quality is excellent and has a solid look to its construction. Installation is a breeze as advertised.
I've installed it on my Windows 7 Pro desktop PC, my Windows 7 Home laptop, and my HTC EVO 3D running Android 2.3.4. Pairing with all 3 devices was seamless with one exception. On the laptop it took about 5 tries to get the system to except the pairing code. Once it did it paired without a problem.
I am finding that the surface is extremely important as well as the correct sensitivity setting on the keyboard. Not sure if this is the case but, the unit also seems to get more responsive and accurate the more you use it. It takes time to learn the user's individual keystrokes depending on the thickness of your fingers, the amount of pressure one uses to type, and other characteristics of the users way of typing.
One of the real Pros that I like is in low light situations, like for me, my laptop keyboard is not backlit and for that it's great!
One of the cons as mentioned in another review is the keyboard layout. It is not a full, normal QWERTY layout and as said before does not have a right side number pad.
The mouse pad I'm still trying to figure out and at least for now going to stick with my wireless mouse. The sensitivity also has a lot to do with how well the mouse pad functions.
All in all it is a nice product, just a little too expensive. I'm sure as with most all technology oriented products the price will probably drop the longer it is out there.
In the YouTube video from the C.E.S. show they said there was a kid that, could type 200 words per minute on the Magic Cube. That I seriously doubt. The best typists out there type 100 to 120 words per minute on a perfect system.
Lastly, if like me you are a little geeky and really love technology you will definitely want to try the Magic Cube; it's pretty cool and has some good practical applications. I am a 10 finger typist and at best type about 50 words per minute. This compete review was typed using the Magic Cube and took about 4 to 5 minutes, including error correction.
The good points are few and far between. It has a great look to it and hooking it up via USB is simple although I did have to plug it in twice before my system read it properly. After that, it operated like any keyboard.
I could not get it to pair via Bluetooth with three Android phones that it says it will pair with. I did get it to pair with my Acer tablet without a problem.
The big elephant in the room is the keyboard itself. It is not a full keyboard. The function keys are in different positions and there is no extended keyboard. As an editing keyboard, I need the extended keyboard and the function keys where they should be.
Finger position on the keys is also important and problematic if you need to do a Control/Shift/third key stroke such as delselecting tracks in an Avid of FCP. If you are like me and are used to hitting and holding the Shift, then then Control button then hitting the A buttong, it doesn't recognize the keystrokes because your Shift finger has probably blocked the Control finger you laid on the board.
Keystroke recognition is slowly. Way too slow. I started to write this review using the Magic Cube and gave up because it was taking too long. The keyboard on my tablet just barely keeps up with my typing (roughly 30-40wpm...not great) so I switched back. The Magic Cube cannot keep up past hunt-and-peck typing and it stumbles on double taps of the same key.
Key press and hold works slowly as well. You will get multiple letters, but it takes a while for the keyboard to recognize you are waiting for it to double up letters.
As i said, the keyboard layout is way off from a normal keyboard with such simple things as the period button located on the top row where the function keys would normally be. The tilda key is second in on the top row, delete is top right...just take a good look at the pictures and you'll see what I mean. For someone used to the standard keyboard layout, this will take some time to address but I'd rather see them come out with a proper extended keyboard with a control panel to handle such things as recognition speed, double taps and click and hold features. Or perhaps they could do a software update on these to handle that.
Either way, i'll be returning this for now since it simple fails to meet my needs and expectations.
